Weigela

Deciduous shrubs which bears profuse clusters of flowers in spring. Fast-growing. Prefers sun - partial shade. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, but prefer a moist but well-drained rich loam soil. They don't do well in windy areas, so protect them with a wall or other structure.

Weigelas bloom on both old and new wood. Hardy plant but it's prone to winter dieback, especially in areas with harsh winters - prune out any dead wood in early Spring. Since older wood is less likely to flower than new wood, it is also advisable removing any old branches - leave all 1-5 year old shoots and remove only the old shoots. Shape/Prune in early Spring before they start to leaf out or after flowering to maintain the shape.
